Killarney 2 day base camp rides

The broad plan is to drive out to Killarney ( around 200 km from Brisbane ) Monday with an optional hike on the way.
Monday 14th September (Optional hike up Mount Wilson)
On the way to Killarney on Monday 14 Sept, Kerry will be leading an optional bush walk up Wilsons Peak. The return journey is only 6.2k return, but involves a climb of some 600m from The Head Rd. Some scrambling is required, but nothing technical nor dangerous. For those doing this, we meet at the public toilets block in Boonah at 0900, located on the left of the Boonah to Rathdowney Rd as you leave the CBD (basically at the top end of the Main Street). Some prior walking is advised, otherwise you may have sore legs for the next 2 days cycling. You will need to bring snacks and plenty of water.
Meet for drinks and the evening meal at the Killarney Pub at 6 pm today Monday 14th
Tuesday 15th September Ride the Condamine Gorge via Queen Mary Falls, 46 km loop with 851 M of climbing
Meet at the Sundowner Motel Caravan Park in town, 800 M from the pub, at 8 am to head off at 8.30 am.
The ride heads up to Queen Mary falls for a short break on bitumen roads, then further climbing to Carr’s Lookout. At just after 24 km we turn sharp left onto gravel and head back to Killarney via the Condamine Gorge. This road is around 20 km of good quality gravel through the Gorge with 12 river crossings, the first one will be up to your knees. Most of the others are around 200 mm deep. Don’t wear your best shoes. Well have a short break somewhere in the Gorge for snacks that we’ll need to carry.

The afternoon is free to explore town.
Evening Meal. A bring your own meat BBQ in the Sundown Camp kitchen. They have a beaut facility with pot belly log fire. Will fit 15 people very comfortably. However, if the majority want another pub meal thats OK too.
The camp kitchen has a frig, BBQ, stove and cooking utensils.
Wednesday 16th Killarney, Barlows Gate, Elbow Valley, Tannymorel loop, 55 km 552 M of climbing.
Meet at the Sundown Motel Caravan Park at 8 am to head off at 8.30 am.
We head out of town just a block away from the motel along Willow St past the Showgrounds, then along quiet gravel roads to Barlow’s Gate following the border with NSW. We stay totally in QLD for this ride.
You can see the route below. We skirt past Elbow Valley and slowly get back onto to bitumen roads staying on quiet roads wherever possible.
