Annual Mt O’Rielly’s ride
September 14 @ 7:00 am - 1:00 pm
(Mountain bikes or Touring types only please)
Time: Meet at 0715 for a 0730 start.
Will re-group as reqd. Distance : 73 km return, approx. 5 hours duration.
Starting point : Appel Street (opposite the Canungra Hotel – the “Tudor” one opposite the public toilets). Suggest you park in Appel Street. Fully sealed quiet roads, but some parts are quite rough / potholed.
Approx. 4% climb for about 19 km’s + 2 pinches @ 15%. Stop at a nice 360 degree view about 9km from the top. Coffee / snack / toilet stop at the destination. Drink / lunch back in Canungra, if you wish.
The ride will not proceed if rain or strong winds are forecast. Caution required due to leaves on road, blind corners, cattle grids and only a few guard rails on some steep edges. Alex Geels mobile: 0490 456 804. To save a wasted trip, please ring me if the conditions look doubtful. Rear light a good idea due to some dark areas in parts of the rainforest. Great views (conditions permitting). P.S. Currently the O’Reilly’s café is open from 9am. They can be contacted on 1800 688 722 closer to the ride date to confirm if they are trading on the day. If closed, suggest you carry an extra snack/drink. The downhill is probably the best in Qld – but extreme caution is required.
