Cycling for fun, fitness and friendship
The BBTA is a recreational cycling club based in Brisbane, Australia. Our club is run as a not for profit organisation and is fully supported by volunteers.
Our club’s main aim is to encourage safe cycling for fun, fitness and friendship. All BBTA rides are social, graded to suit all levels of fitness, and are non-competitive.
COVID 19 Stage 3 Restrictions as at 1 December 2020, Club rides restricted to groups of 100 max within Queensland
You can read the directive here
All club rides, including multi day rides which may recommence, are to follow the latest health guidelines for the state where the ride occurs. Rides in QLD follow QLD rules (available https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/government-actions/roadmap-to-easing-queenslands-restrictions/sport). Rides in NSW follow NSW rules (available https://sport.nsw.gov.au/novel-coronavirus-covid-19)
If you aren’t feeling healthy, suspect you may have COVID-19 or have been in close contact with a known or suspected case within the last 14 days, don’t come on any club rides.
If you are found to have COVID-19 and recently been on a ride please let the president Paul Glennon (pauljglennon@gmail.com) know.
Sign on sheets – To prevent sharing of pens during the pandemic, only ride leaders / coordinators will record members attending rides on the sign on sheet. Members participating in a ride will be deemed to have agreed to the club’s standard disclaimer. This can be found at the top of the sign on sheet or at https://bbta.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/BBTA-Indemnity_Ride_Register.pdf. Ride leaders are to show the disclaimer to any non-members joining a ride and confirm they agree to this disclaimer before they can join the ride.
Social Distancing – Members are to keep 1.5m apart before the start of a ride, while riding side by side or passing anther rider, when riding behind another rider in a group and at the end of a ride.
Hygiene – members are to take care of their own hygiene and bring their own hand sanitiser where appropriate.
The club recommends members install the COVIDSafe app on their phone as it can speed up contact tracing.
The club, if requested, will provide sign on sheets to any health official wanting to use them for contact tracing.
Ride well,…Stay Safe
Come along for the ride with BBTA
On any day BBTA cyclists are out and about exploring our sub tropical city of Brisbane and its environs in South East Queensland, or beyond.
As well as cycling we also conduct interesting informative social evenings on a bi-monthly basis.
We’re certainly not a newcomer to the Brisbane cycling scene. In fact, BBTA has been around for over 30 years! We have grown from a small club offering a few bicycle tours and rides to 250 strong member base offering over 30 rides a month plus numerous weekend tours.
A little background history
In August 1983 a group of keen cyclists – Peter and Christine Brandis, Peter Muhling, Ken and Lee Sampson, Hazel Lombardo, Bob McQueen and Peter Behan – saw the need for a bicycle touring group in Brisbane and started the wheels turning. ‘Interested in Cycle touring’ leaflets were handed out at the Heart Foundation Cyclethon on Sunday 21 August 1983 and, under a large hand-painted sign (courtesy of Ken Sampson), about 50 names were collected from interested cyclists.
