Day 1 - Thursday May 7 - (Overall about 22km)
I am planning to start from the Landsborough Railway station at 10am. This will allow some riders to come up on the train. An 08:25hr train from Roma Street train station will get riders to Landsborough at 9:58am ready for the start on time. I will probably be at Buck's Bakery across the road with a coffee and apple slice (Yum), waiting for the riders to come in. Of course if you have come by car you can park nearby and join me.
The ride will travel along the west side of the Ewen Maddock Dam which is quite spectacular. There area few separate pathways that come off the main track that will allow us to explore some wetlands further but overall the path to the Ewen Maddock Dam picnic area will be about 12km with the extension sections. At the picnic area we take a break and soak up some of the scenery. We then head off to Mooloolah and then through the Dularcha Tunnel and back to Landsborough for lunch. From there people who have come up on the train can explore a little further until a train arrives to bring them back to Brisbane. A train leaves nearly every hour. Those who have driven up can go and find their accommodation.
An overview of the trial can be seen in the map below. There will be a few modifications but generally speaking this will reflect what will be done.
For those people staying up in Caloundra the night before I will organise to catch up if there is interest.
On the the evening of Thursday May 7, riders will meet at Drift Bar on Bullcock Beach at 5:30pm for a pre dinner drink and probably go to a local restaurant. There are many options close by within walking distance which include Italian, Indian, Thai and Vietnamese or a pub meal. Riders can decide on the night if they want to join the group.
Day 2 - Friday May 8 - Coastal Path ride - 40km return along the coastal dunes from Caloundra to Point Cartwright and then returning.
The ride is shown in the
Coastal Path Ride link in our route library. It can be done on a hybrid, mountain, gravel or e-bike. It is a wide path shared with walkers. I plan to leave from Happy Valley in Caloundra at 08:30hrs so we miss most of the early morning walkers. While I am not promising anything I am trying to organise someone to bring up a few snags to La Balsa Park so we can have a BBQ lunch before returning back the way we came.
