Vale Robert Byrnes

Paul Glennon | Published on 5/26/2026
Sadly Robert who was a long time member of the BBTA, passed away after a short illness, on 29th April.

Many may remember Robert as he hosted a Christmas morning ride every year and called it the 'Orphans and Escapee's ride along the river with a shared lunch at Orleigh Park West End.

He was well into his 80s when he stopped riding but still wanted the ride to continue,..and we did that for a couple more years with only a few takers,...

So,..I first met Robert as a young 81 year old doing a two week BBTA tour of 3 rail trails in New Zealand in February 2019. Roberts the gent in front with the orange jacket.

If you would like to share in the Celebration of Roberts Life,...you are invited to come along to a setting among the trees of Woolcock Park (off Hawthorne Terrace ) in Red Hill,...2 pm this Sunday 31st May. (Weather Permiting)

As only Robert would have it,...a very informal wake among family and friends,...and to bring everything you need for the day,..as in chair, sun shade, musical instruments, esky, stories and some food to share,...

I'll be there,...so if you knew Robert and would like to join us,..Please do,...
