Whats ON in January

Paul Glennon | Published on 1/1/2026

Wishing everyone a fun filled New Year doing mainly what you love,…as we say GoodBye to another year,..

So,..this year we’ll see the BBTA picking up from by gone years with a stronger focus on Bike Touring and Bike Packing.

For Bike Packing as distinct from Touring, has an Off pavement adventure focus, namely gravel and often seeking out forgotten trails, with minimalist gear. Its extremely versatile, with a nimble freedom on varied terrain, ..pushing your bike up insane hills is part of it,…and our Club has more than a hand full of guys currently planning and doing it,..

And Bike Touring is where the Club started,.. is basically long distance cycling mainly on pavement carrying everything in pannier bags with a focus on exploration and the journey from town to town,..

So,..if you have a mild interest in Bike Touring we'll get you started with our Introductory Tour, Crabbes Creek to Tyalgum mid March.

Just one night away, 2 days easy-peasy riding,..a great way to start,..

AND our first Social Night just before this on Tuesday 17th March, we will be overviewing Bike Packing and Bike Touring to wet your appetite for a lot more,…

Oh,..did I mention,… we’ll be putting on a lot more WEEKEND rides to offer the Workers and others
more than simply 5 am rides,..

TWO important Events coming up,..early February,..the AGM Sunday 1st and the Planning Meeting on Tuesday 3th,..both essential for You to be part of the conversation on Whats really happening,..

So,…January,..straight off the bat, John Stevens Public Holiday East Side Ride tomorrow morning in fact, 6.30 am leaving form the Minnippi Wetlands Skate Track carpark. A 60 km brisk ride taking in the bay and Wellington Point. Highly recommended.

Then beneath the Full Moon Michael O’Hagan has stepped up to plan and lead a night ride to the Belvedere Hotel for dinner leaving the Nundah Crit track at 6 pm on this Saturday 3th. Wow, this will be great. Lights front and back essential,..its a 20 k/hr No Drop ride,…Please Consider,..

And Australia Day Monday 26th Alex Geels has a beaut ride Coominya to Esk return on the BVRT,..a truly iconic trail now with so much to offer,..its Alex’s pick for a great trail to explore,..so Please Consider,..

The Regular rides are on the Calendar for you see. John Stevens 2 Points from Gumdale on every Sunday from 6.30 am, Tuesdays Alt. Oasis to Sandgate, Thursdays Coffee at the Beach (Sandgate) from 7.30 am and the Redcliffe Run leaving the Crit track at 6.30 am.

Iain Moore has his Saturday Arvo ride each Saturday leaving the Windsor Train station at 3 pm.

Also Brunch Sandgate is on Sunday 4th and 18th leaving Kalinga Park at 7 am.

Also Aileen Franklin's Bayside Breeze ride is not on the calendar atm,..chat with her if she is planning  it for January,..

The latest order of Club Jerseys are due later in the month,..you’ll be informed closer to the time,..

Please message me here if there is anything you want to discuss particularly ideas for interesting rides you may be considering,..

Well,..an exciting year is starting to unfold,..fabulous that you can be part of it,..

Thats it for now
