Stradbroke Island Day Ride – Paul Glennon

Tuesday 29th April 25 just 10 of us boarded the Straddle Flyer ferry from Cleveland wharf to Dulwich for a very quick 40 minute trip. Weather was blue sky perfect.

Murray Davies was the Ride Leader.

The initial leg was a 15 km leg on bitumen to Amity Point and a beaut cafe Bo Beans for coffee. Then we took the off-road grassed trail which was so quiet and peaceful with the only concern was two or three patches of 50 mm sand. Otherwise, the birds could be heard, and they were as happy as us.

So, lunch at Point Lookout, I jumped in the ocean for a refreshing swim and the others sort food that was just as refreshing. Just 2 hours here, but we could have stayed all day. However, the 2.30 ferry was calling. And so completed a delightful day.

We’ll take the later ferry next time. They run virtually every hour and a half.

A highly recommended ride.

And from Teresa Parker

It was a wonderful day out, great company and couldn't have asked for a better day weather wise.

I was on my hybrid ebike, and it was a first for me experiencing riding on sand.

In one section where I couldn't get onto firm ground, my bike said “ugh” and went over!!

I landed very gently on a patch of soft sand and Paul Glennon was able to lift the bike off me. Pride and bruises only.
