2024 Scenic Rim

Ian Chant | Published on 9/13/2024

The 2024 Scenic Rim ride on August 29 and 30 had 21 riders with three non-riding partners joining us for dinner.

We started out from Peak Crossing singing “Happy Birthday” to Gary Abdy.

But we all felt it was our birthday because, Geraldine Page kindly offered to be our “bag person”.

Before and during the ride we had the “Scenic Rim 2024” What’s App group running so we could keep in touch with everyone but more importantly to participate in a ride quiz.

It was a hotly contested quiz with Peter Damm and Suzanne leaving the start early and be the first to post their answers.

The first question asked riders to name the two creeks we were crossing. Peter and Suzanne’s correct answers are shown below.

We headed west of the Cunningham Highway to Coleyville past an Emu farm and made our way back via Warrill View to Kalbar.  As we turned right into Munbilla Road, Steve Page got some fantastic photos of our pelton.  All the photos are in the photo album in this link 2024 Scenic Rim but below you can see two of the riders showing us the way.

and this time Simon was on the right path....

Simon - are you on the right road

We reached Kalbar just before lunch and checked out all the new stores in the main street.

A bite to eat and the coffee was a treat.   By the time we got out of the bakery, the temperature and wind had increased.  We were now facing about 20 km of riding into a headwind.

It was so hot we opted not to venture into Moogerah Dam.  The hot wind was creating “white caps” on the water in the lake.

Some of us took a break just before the crest of Mt Alford to build up a bit more energy for the fantastic decent ahead of us.

A quick sample of the fare at the Scenic Rim Brewery and a wind assisted ride into Boonah made up for the hard slog past Mooogerah.
Another question this time around a special clock in the main street

I can report that Peter and Suzanne won the quiz prize.

That evening saw 21 people enjoy dinner at the Tavern

The birthday boy could not believe the size of the steak he got – how did they know it was Gary’s birthday?

You would think it is his Birhday

The next morning the Peleton regrouped for 33km ride back to Peak Crossing.

The start was captured on video and can be seen here https://youtube.com/shorts/1AlH2SOpcsY?feature=share

The first part of the ride was the short climb to Teviotville.  Photos of a few riders can be seen below

but thanks to Steve Page a photo of all the riders (except Steve) can be found in the Scenic Rim Photo album here....2024 Scenic Rim

To give you a sense of the riding conditions the following video features a couple of riders on the undulating road. See it on Youtube here https://youtu.be/c6yD113xXco

By 11:30hrs we were back in Peak Crossing and we popped over to the pub to share our stories.
all smiles - the end of the ride

A great two days of riding left us with all smiles...
