Paul Glennon | Published on 7/2/2024

I can feel the heat rising as more rides trickle in and land on the Club Calendar,…so thank you to all who have nominated your fab rides in recent days,..

Lets get right behind the upcoming rides,… ‘saddle up and peddal on’ a ride you’ve not done yet,..

So, six special rides on this months calendar along with our five regular ones and a Club Get Together thrown in to brush up your social skills,…as if, any of you need that.

First up is Craig Jones’s Mountain / gravel bike ride from Upper Kedron to Brookfield and return. A top and challenging ride for the adventurous and fit, down for this Thursday 4th at 8 am.

Over to next Tuesday 9th, there’s a ride to Samford via the Rail Trail at the top end of Lanita Road leaving the Nundah Crit track at 7 am. Around 70 km, a 25 km/hr pace, through the beautiful Samford Valley.

Sunday week 14th, sees a repeat of last months three concurrent rides along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) where 15 club members enjoyed the delights of open country trails. Oh,..they’re virtually flat, so easy riding. Meet at Lowood at the park right in the centre of town. Start times vary for each ride,…please register.

And also back on again is Trevor Bond’s Easy 9 Bridges ride on Sunday 21st leaving the Northshore tennis Park carpark Hamilton at 7 am. A great moderate paced ride under 20 km/hr. A beaut coffee spot under the Storey Bridge too.

Alex Geel’s Canungra to O’Reilly’s and return ride has hit the calendar again for Sunday 28th at 8.15 am. Lovely country, beaut views,…Alex describes the ride in the notes on the calendar. Please consider.

And if your looking for less hills then Iain Moore’s Bunch - Nudgee Beach ride also on Sunday 28th leaves Kalinga Park at 7.30 am. Please consider.

Oh,…The Club Get Together is on Saturday week the 13th at Bellissimo Cafe, 12 Cavendish Rd Cooparoo,…perfectly positioned for the south side troops keen on showing the north siders their fab coffee spots,…..8am and onwards,..

The Regular rides are on the calendar to see. They are John Stevens Sunday morn 2 Points from Gumdale ride, Iain Moore’s Saturday Arvo ride, Tuesday Alt Oasis to Sandgate and Thursday’s Redcliffe Run and Daryl Beatie’s Coffee at the Beach ride. Please continue to support all of these rides.

Now two rides in the coming months need some notice for your planning.

First is Helen Walker’s Cobb and Co Cycle Tour from Wednesday 21st to Tuesday 27th August. This is a loop tour starting in Condamine in the Darling Downs. Helen has fully detailed the ride in the Calendar and wants to highlight the following points,…

•This tour coincides with the Cobb and Co Festival to celebrate the last Cobb and Co coach ride in Australia from Surat to Yuleba in 2024.
•Free day in Surat to enjoy the festivities.
•The Surat-Yuleba Road is officially closed on Sat 24 to Sun 25 Aug for the re-enactment ride but BBTA has special permission to ride on the Sun, staying behind the coach and horses.
•There is no food and water available for the two-day return trip from Yuleba to Condamine via Yuleba Creek and riders should be self-sufficient.
Please consider,…as it will be a top tour and to be part of 100 year celebrations of a by gone era

The other tour to consider is Peter Brennan’s Ballina to Casino weekend Supported ride down for 7th and 8th September. These weekend rides capture great country to ride in and fabulous company to ride and enjoy a weekend away. You will need to register directly with Peter at pbrennan58@gmail.com So far, 25 riders are set to go with Registrations open till 23th August. Please consider.

Well thats about it for now,…

Go Well,..Be Safe,...Have FUN,
